A lot of you are sending me mails about what to do with protein powder, if you need to take it and what kind of ones are best for women.
I have to admit, it can be pretty daunting to go into a big supplement shop for the first time, especially if you don’t know what you are asking for and don’t want to be ripped off either!
You will see options such as fat burning proteins with CLA and Green tea extract and caffeine, you’ll see powders to help you build muscle and gain mass, you’ll see diet proteins, proteins that are more carb based than protein based- to be honest the list is endless!
I can be a sucker for marketing at the best of times- I work in marketing and yet I can still be dragged in by fancy packages, bright colours and carefully worded campaigns!
Let’s stand back for a second and take away the stickers, the colours and the fancy tubs. There are specific brands and product ranges that are aimed at men and others at women.
The only difference is the ingredients. Typically a ‘bulking’ formula is more geared towards men as it has quite a heavy carb content.
Women’s protein powders, on the other hand usually contain far fewer carbs and sugars.
I look for a pure protein powder with fewer additives, sugars, fillers, carbs and fats in so far as possible. Don’t be sucked in by pink containers just because they say they are for women.
My own personal favourite is TeamON Optimum Nutrition Lean Whey in Chocolate Milkshake flavour as it’s mild in taste, tastes good with water or coconut or almond milk and it’s a pure form of protein- it’s Whey Protein and has a very low carb content too!
So if you’re thinking of trying out a new Protein for the first time, I’d definitely recommend this one!
